Well Done Foundation Founder Curtis Shuck is an avid skier and is deeply committed to preserving our natural environment.
[Happy Valley, Oregon] - In a transformative partnership marked by shared values and a resolute commitment to environmental stewardship, Tragethon Consulting is honored to announce its collaboration with the Well Done Foundation. This joint endeavor aims to tackle one of the most critical environmental challenges affecting the snow sports community – methane gas emissions from abandoned oil and gas wells.
Tragethon Consulting is excited to provide strategic marketing and communications services to engage and cultivate support within the winter sports community for the Well Done Foundation. This non-profit organization has been diligently working to cap orphaned oil and gas wells, effectively reducing methane emissions and mitigating the harmful impact on our environment.
To date, the Well Done Foundation has successfully plugged wells emitting more than 950,000 metric tons of CO2e – a remarkable achievement akin to removing 205,000 vehicles from roadways for a full year or planting an impressive 15 million tree seedlings. The Foundation's unwavering dedication has garnered recognition, making significant strides toward a cleaner and more sustainable world.
Monitoring methane release at an orphan well site - there are an estimated 3 million such orphan oil and gas wells in the United States.
The Well Done Foundation's mission aligns seamlessly with the snow sports community’s ethos, fortifying a shared purpose to protect the environment for future generations. Founder Curtis Shuck is an avid skier and someone deeply committed to preserving our natural environment. He explains, “This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our mission to cap orphaned oil and gas wells, reducing harmful methane emissions and safeguarding the very landscapes that inspire our winter sports community. Together, we have a unique opportunity to unite winter sports enthusiasts under a common purpose – to create a sustainable and thriving future for both our cherished mountains and our beloved snow sports. This partnership reflects the heart of our mission: to make an immediate, measurable impact that resonates beyond the snow-covered slopes."
Moreover, this partnership introduces an innovative approach for companies to support the Well Done Foundation's work and simultaneously advance their own sustainability goals. Carbon Credits can be acquired to aid the Foundation's endeavors while contributing to a company's net-zero commitment. This innovative mechanism offers a tangible pathway for companies to actively engage in environmental preservation.
Orphan wells are not just a rural issue - many are located in neighborhoods and are releasing harmful gasses and contaminating ground water.
Capping orphaned oil and gas wells has recently garnered heightened attention, evidenced by its prioritization in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The law recognizes the urgency of addressing this issue, stating that, "Orphaned oil and gas wells are polluting backyards, recreation areas, and community spaces across the country. Methane leaking from many of these unplugged wells is a serious safety hazard and is a significant cause of climate change.” According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), methane has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide over the first 20 years after it reaches the atmosphere. At least 25% of today's global warming is driven by methane from human actions.
Tragethon Consulting is determined to contribute its efforts to this important cause. Principal Dave Tragethon states, “As the partnership unfolds, snow sports enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to embrace the Foundation's mission through memberships that yield measurable, immediate results. By supporting the Well Done Foundation, individuals and corporations can become agents of change, combating climate change one capped well at a time.”
